Press Play: Sam Smith

Sam Smith may not be a household name yet, but his rising fame and talent could get him there very soon. Smith is from Great Chishill, Cambridgeshire in England. He is also an alumnus of the Youth Music Theatre UK where he had star roles in productions. He is a singer and songwriter but more importantly he is a student of the art. He spent many years studying his craft under Joanna Eden, a jazz vocalist and pianist.

While his influences are strong, Smith has a voice that doesn’t necessarily match up. He has a rich Rn’B sound and his powerful vocals also give off a soul/pop vibe as well. His track “Nirvana” is a perfect example of how he incorporates all of these elements together. Even if you’re not a fan of the Rn’B sound, there is no denying that Sam Smith has real talent. At only 21 years of age the studious, unassuming, but vibrant Sam Smith is this week’s Press Play artist.
