Though it’s not available until February 19th of 2016, the popular experimental electronic group, Animal Collective, recently debuted their upcoming album, Painting With, in an unlikely venue. There’s a new post-punk group hitting the college music airwaves that has the staff of RSU Radio buzzing. Video is a band who has been playing shows in their native Austin, TX for years but are just now breaking into the college radio scene with The Entertainers, their second full length album. The group formed in Austin around 2010 and released their first album in 2011. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are an Australian seven piece indie rock group who formed in 2010. Since their emergence five years ago, the band has released seven albums through their very own record label, Flightless. As If, the sixth studio album from the funky, indie rock, dance group, !!!, pronounced ‘Chk Chk Chk’, is one of the more highly anticipated albums of the year by college radio stations around North America. Hard rock group, Fuzz, makes a loud and explosive return to RSU’s airwaves with the release of their latest album, II, due out on October, 23rd.  The threesome is a side project formed in 2011 by the infamous California garage and psychedelic rocker, Ty Segall. He is best known for his talents as a guitar player and vocalist on his many solo albums and with his other group, The Ty Segall Band. With Fuzz, Segall plays the drums and is also the lead singer. So far the trip has been a great experience. Day 1 started with a few delays, missed connection flights, hotel mix-ups, and being tired of sitting. The day ended with a rooftop party with downtown Manhattan as the backdrop (view pictured below). Co-Sign Promotions had some great bands lined up on the roof of Output in Brooklyn. The 4th annual Zipper Q BBQ Throwdown takes place Saturday, October 3rd at the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Oklahoma. Its goal is to raise awareness and funds for the connective tissue disease, Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, or FOP.  FOP is an extremely rare connective tissue disease that affects 1 in 2 million people. It causes bone to form inside muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues in the human body. It painfully restricts movement and creates a second skeleton in those diagnosed with FOP. The 35th annual CMJ Music Marathon takes place October 13th thru 17th in its usual location of New York City. The yearly festival is put on by the College Music Journal, or CMJ, an online publication that focuses on music for college radio stations. The CMJ Music Marathon features many, fascinating events. It is a college music convention of sorts, that brings in students, who are employed by their university’s radio station, in addition to music promoters, from all over the United States and Canada. Fans of the Oklahoma music scene should all know the popular instrumental group, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, who are set to release their 27th album, The Battle For Earth, in the fall of 2015.  JFJO has been a staple in the Tulsa music scene for over 20 years.
