Enter the Asylum…If You Dare

October is a month full of frightful fun, and if you’re really ready for a scare you can enter The Asylum, a haunted attraction in Nowata. The Asylum has a dark history that revolves around a 1940s sanitarium. Many details surrounding a horrific fire within the sanitarium have been left unknown…until now. Visitors are taken through a vacant branch of what used to be Eastern State Hospital. The mental institution operated before regulations on patient treatment were enforced. Honoring Art at Momentum Tulsa

Young artists 30 and under get the opportunity to present their work to Tulsans at Momentum: Art Doesn’t Stand Still. Held at Living Arts in downtown Tulsa, Momentum features a variety of art forms in 2D and 3D. Fine Arts Film: Brooklynn Brothers Beat the Best

Next up in the RSU Fine Arts Film Series is Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best, a quirky, dark comedy about a recently dumped twenty-something from New York who is on the verge of giving up his goal of becoming a musician. Getting DOWN in Tulsa

Sludge metal titans Down made a stop at Tulsa’s historic Cain’s Ballroom recently. This was big news for metal fans since Down is a “super group” made up of members from notable metal bands both past and present. The most recognizable of which is lead singer Phil Anselmo. Anselmo gained notoriety as the front man for legendary metal band Pantera. This show was particularly special for me as I had not seen Phil on stage since Pantera’s 1996 ‘Great Southern Trendkill Tour’. Art on the Hill Returns to RSU

The third annual Art on the Hill is returning to Rogers State University this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 28-29). From art demonstrations to concerts and plays, there are a variety of activities at this year’s event. Art on the Hill will feature exhibits of original artwork by area artists, as well as high school and college students. Professors from RSU’s Fine Arts Department will be presenting art demonstrations, including screen printing, wheel-throwing, solar printing, and clay hand building. 2012 CMJ College Radio Awards Nominees Announced!

Rogers State University’s radio station, RSU Radio 91.3 FM receives word that the station and it announcers have been nominated in the 2012 CMJ College Radio Awards. CMJ, which stands for College Music Journal, is an integrated marketing agency specializing in providing its clients access to the college and young adult demographic in the music world. CMJ also connects music fans with the industry with the best in new music through interactive media, live events and print. RSU Theatre Returns with ‘Original Recipe’

You can see what the RSU Theatre Program has been up to as Original Recipe opens Thursday and runs through Saturday. Original Recipe is a series of five ten-minute plays that are written, directed, or performed by RSU students and faculty. “Dave and Marsha,” a play written by Will Hedgecock of Edison Preparatory School in Tulsa, stars Andrew Grimes and Katie Hoffman as a man and a woman who are trapped in a room. The Fair is Coming to Claremore!

Fair season is in full swing, and that includes the 98th Annual Rogers County Fair. Starting Thursday, September 13th, fair goers can enjoy carnival rides, live music, and fair food at the Claremore Expo Center. The fair features a variety of activities that the whole family can enjoy. The Expo Hall Market is the place to shop Friday and Saturday for homemade products and a variety of accessories.
