During the month of February Hillcat athletes have acquired several accolades. J.C. Hartzler  received the honor of being selected for the Capitol One All-District Men’s basketball team. The junior guard leads the Hillcats in scoring by averaging 14.6 points per game and carries a 3.8 grade point average while majoring in Applied Technology.

Hillcat senior basketball player, Frederico Santos, was named Heartland Conference player of the week after breaking the RSU record for rebounds in a season. Santos, a native of Brazil, has achieved 12 double-doubles so far this season and leads the conference in rebounding by averaging 10.5 per game.

RSU women’s senior, Miaila Newton, was named Heartland Conference player of the week earlier this month after averaging 23 points in two games. Newton also set an RSU single-game record by converting 14 free throws in an overtime win vs.  St. Mary’s. Newton is now the second RSU women’s basketball player to receive the weekly honor after teammate DaNara Day received it in late January.
