April Music

April may be known for pranks and tricks, but this April is also a great month for true alternative music.

I thought I was being pranked when I was told that the brand new Cold War Kids was being released on April Fool’s Day. “Dear Miss Lonelyhearts” will thrill any Cold War Kids fan with its blues influenced mix and overall catchy tunes like the song “Lost that Easy”.

Local favorites, The Flaming Lips, are also making an appearance in April with the release of “The Terror.” Thirty years in the music business and The Lips continue with the same kind of exuberant experimentation that we’ve grown to expect. Ominous from the beginning, this post-apocalyptic sounding album is, according to frontman Wayne Coyne, “terrifying.”

Finally, fresh off their Saturday Night Live performance, Phoenix is releasing “Bankrupt!” near the end of the month. After 2 years of touring, the band found inspiration for the album in one simple concept, coming home. “We were away from home for a long time… I think home inspired us — France and our childhood memories. It’s sometimes hard, but it’s a good feeling. It’s inspiring,” said guitarist Christian Mazzalai.

This is all serious and no joke. There are some great releases out in April, and RSU Radio is here to make sure you get the best of it!
