“It’s all that Jazz” coming to RSU!

“A night at the Movies” or so it will sound like on Monday, April 27th when the RSU Jazz Ensemble and Concert band perform songs from both classic and contemporary shows. Themes from newer hits such as “The Incredibles”, “Captain America”, “Star Wars” as well as older favorites including “Patton”, the “Children of Sanchez” and “Brigadoon” will be performed.  The concert will begin at 7:30 in the Will Rogers Auditorium with canned food begin collected to benefit the RSU “Food for Thought” food pantry.  continue reading →

Rise Up at the Rock

Rise Up At The Rock Music Festival is at the Hanging Rock Camp in Tahlequah, OK. There will be artists like Elephant Revival, The Red Dirt Rangers, Carter Sampson, Joe Baxter, and many more!Rise Up At The Rock Music Festival is a two-day event, May 9-10. Tickets include camping accommodations for both nights. RSU Athletics Update

The Rogers State cheerleading squad is heading to Daytona Beach,FL to compete in the National Cheerleader Association’s Collegiate Cheer and Dance competition. The team will be performing a routine that consists of: tumbling, stunting, dance, and motions choreographed by music. The routine is 2 minutes and 15 seconds of skill and endurance. Teams will be judged on degree of difficulty, perfection of routine and overall impression. Alternative rock band, Chastity Belt recently released their new album, Time To Go Home. This is the second full length record for the dynamic, all female group that formed in Walla Walla, Washington in 2010. Julia Sharpiro, Lydia Lund, Annie Truscott, and Gretchen Grimm tell stories through their lyrics. Currently working out of Denver, Colorado, Montropo, brings a smooth, well-developed sound to the airwaves of RSU Radio. Montropo is the stage name for Andres Diaz, a singer/songwriter who grew up in Austin, TX. Diaz moved to Denver in order to hone his musical sound. His debut album, "Follow Me", is reminiscent of the powerful folk songs from the 1960s. Two local musicians are raising money for a once in a lifetime trip to the United Kingdom. Daniel Jordan and Meggie McDonald are ambitious Tulsa singer/songwriters who play in venues all over the city. They have been presented with a chance to showcase their talents in the UK in hopes of broadening their audience.  James Bardell, a music blogger, aspiring writer and UK native currently living in Oklahoma, met the two musicians recently and offered them this rare opportunity. The first fully authorized documentary detailing the life of Nirvana leader, Kurt Cobain, is set to air for the public May 4th, 2015 on HBO. “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January, receiving high praises by those critics and fans in attendance.  Written and directed by Brett Morgen, the documentary uses a combination of filmmaking techniques.
