A Successful Start for Center of the Universe Festival In Tulsa

It would be extremely difficult to review all of the exceptional music that went down at the first night of the Center of the Universe festival, but I am going to do my best. While there are certainly some kinks to be worked out, it was hard to tell that this was the festival’s first year. Bringing in some stellar acts and uniting local talent and businesses really went a long way to make sure this was a success. The first show I saw there was The Mowgli’s. The southern California band played…continue reading →

After being nominated three times, RSU “Real College Radio” beats out 97.5FM KMOD and Z104 The Edge to win this year’s ABoT (Absolute Best in Tulsa) award for “Best Radio Station for Music”. The win was doubled for Gary “Turbo” Webb, RSU Radio’s Metal Director, who was attending the event because he was also nominated, for the second time, for “Best Radio Personality” facing past winner Lynn Hernandez as well as Corbin & Biggie with the “Big Mad Morning Show” all from KMOD. His award came first and as he was heading back…continue reading →

Here at 91.3 we take pride in playing some of the great music that can be found in our local scene. You can hear local music in our regular rotation every hour (unless it’s a specialty show) after the :45 minute break, and you can keep up with it on our YouTube page as well. The Center of the Universe Festival is a brand new music festival that will go down right in the heart of downtown Tulsa. The Brady Arts District will light up for two nights in July to welcome Neon Trees, OneRepublic, Ok Go, and over 70 other bands to the free concert series. “There will be two main stages…in front of Cain’s Ballroom and the secondary stage will be at Guthrie Green,” said festival organizers, Chris Lieberman and Phil Kaiser. “As far as the music itself, we wanted a broad range from pop, hip…continue reading →

Oklahoma Lights Up for Tornado Victims

The Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert was the biggest concert in state history. That’s what Moore, Oklahoma native Toby Keith assured the capacity crowd at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Oklahoma last Saturday. He confirmed via the show’s promoters that it had indeed set the record. 65,000 people exploded with applause as the always patriotic, never apologetic country star closed the 8 hour extravaganza with an explosive set including his biggest hits and plenty of pyrotechnics. While the party was Toby’s to be had, plenty of…continue reading →

SummerStage 2013 has kicked into high gear in Tulsa. It opened last week with a full run of free performances of Tulsa Shakespeare in the Park’s production of “Much Ado About Nothing” at the popular Tulsa Park, Guthrie Green. Throughout the rest of June and July, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center will be bursting at the seams with plays, musicals, and more. On June 21st, the festival will present “The Drowsy Chaperone.” This musical parody is the story of an early 1920s musical fan that plays a record of one of his favorite…continue reading →

deadCENTER in Review

After attending 3 out of the 5 days that the deadCENTER Film Festival was bringing some of the best in Oklahoma filmmaking together across the better portion of Oklahoma City, I left with an even greater respect for the art and a better understanding of how great Oklahoma is for filmmaking. Even after seeing a great documentary on The Rolling Stones and a couple of funny run-ins with The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, the best experience was easily the showing of Okie Shorts. This was an hour and a half collection of short…continue reading →
