A Successful Start for Center of the Universe Festival In Tulsa

It would be extremely difficult to review all of the exceptional music that went down at the first night of the Center of the Universe festival, but I am going to do my best. While there are certainly some kinks to be worked out, it was hard to tell that this was the festival’s first year. Bringing in some stellar acts and uniting local talent and businesses really went a long way to make sure this was a success. The first show I saw there was The Mowgli’s. The southern California band played…continue reading →

“Weird Al” Yankovic is returning to Tulsa in October for the 25th anniversary of his film “UHF”. Shot in Tulsa, “UHF” tells the story of a daydreaming slacker who saves a small television station with his quirky programming. So how appropriate is it that RSU Public TV is planning a special “UHF” pledge drive on Saturday, October 5th with a number of local Tulsa cast members coming to help answer the phones and talk about their on-set experiences with “Weird Al’. In addition to his visit to RSU, “Weird Al” will be performing…continue reading →

Zach and Colton Swon, the famous brothers from Wagoner, OK who made it all the way to the Top Three on this season’s show “The Voice” are kicking off their tour Saturday, August 3rd beginning at 8pm at “The Joint” in Catoosa. Knowing there is not a bad seat in the house, the tickets went on sale yesterday and there are just a few left... If you can’t make this one, I have a feeling they will be playing more concerts in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City area before too long.continue reading →

More musicians are doing their part to help others!

Days after the Boston explosions, which killed three and injured over 200, Dropkick Murphys released t-shirts that read "For Boston" on the front and "Thank you, to all who purchase this shirt. All proceeds go to the victims and families of the Boston Marathon Bombings. Love, Dropkick Murphys" on the back. Within 15 hours, they'd raised over $65,000. The band also played a benefit show at Boston's House of Blues and released the Rose Tattoo: For Boston Charity EP, featuring Bruce Springsteen on a re-recording of their song "Rose Tattoo." Oklahoma Lights Up for Tornado Victims

The Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert was the biggest concert in state history. That’s what Moore, Oklahoma native Toby Keith assured the capacity crowd at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Oklahoma last Saturday. He confirmed via the show’s promoters that it had indeed set the record. 65,000 people exploded with applause as the always patriotic, never apologetic country star closed the 8 hour extravaganza with an explosive set including his biggest hits and plenty of pyrotechnics. While the party was Toby’s to be had, plenty of…continue reading →

The Lion King : I’m feeling the Love

The acclaimed Broadway production of the highest grossing traditionally animated film comes to the heart of Green Country and does not disappoint. This spectacular show hits on all marks, acting, costume, and design to bring the story of Simba to life. Opening with a massive chorus of the “Circle of Life” this musical engulfs the audience directly into the plains of Pride Rock. Giraffes, elephants, and wildebeests march through the audience and gazelle leap across the stage in a spectacle I have not seen matched before. All of the performances are terrific, namely…continue reading →
